Directions on How to Apply
Internships are available to students enrolled in one of two dozen member-schools of the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty (SHECP).
Eligibility requirements include:
- Be a full-time enrolled student at a SHECP member institution, 18-years of age or older.
- Good academic standing at a member-school.
- Have completed a poverty studies course or other coursework at your institution that has prepared you for this internship
- Situations in our program may be very stressful for some participants. Please review any ongoing medical or psychological needs you may have with your treating clinicians, carefully considering whether this is a good program for you, and discuss with us any appropriate accommodations you may require.
In order to complete the application you will need to fill in all required fields and upload a professional resume. Additionally, a signed letter of recommendation on your behalf by a current or former employer, professor, coach, or someone else who has worked with you closely, needs to be emailed to SHECP.
The letter, resume, and application will be used in assessing your application and will also be shared externally with the agency to which you will be recommended.
Partially completed applications can be saved for 30 days for future sessions.
Upon submitting the completed application, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive an email confirmation, your application has not been received. Please contact SHECP immediately to troubleshoot.
Once submitted, your application will be received by your college/university internship director who will contact you to set up an in-person interview.
Application deadlines at each university vary, so please check with your institution. Some deadlines occur as early as mid-October. The latest date for any application is January 20. Please contact the internship director at your institution for the exact date and any other college-specific application requirements.
