Our Mentors for the SHECP 2020 Summer Internship Program came from various educational and professional backgrounds, and many of them previously participated in the SHECP Internship Program. We were excited to see so many participants come together in conversation and action towards the alleviation of poverty. This year, we also noticed a few fun connections in the placement of Mentors and Alumni regarding their Member Schools and Community Partners. Learn more about them:

  • Savannah Johnson, Washington and Lee University student, was a Summer Intern with GA Legal Services. She worked under the supervision of Nancy DeVetter, who is a Washington and Lee Alumna.
  • Summer Intern, J.C. Ward from Washington and Lee University worked at the Office of Judge Pamela White. The Intern Supervisor was Patrick Hanlon, Washington and Lee Law graduate.
  • Carly Merrill from Marymount University interned with the Guildford County Public Defender, under the supervision of Whitten Stone, Elon University School of Law graduate. SHECP’s partnership with the KY Department of Public Advocacy has been long-standing, and they love to participate in our program. In fact, the Department recently hired a SHECP Alumna.

We are thrilled to witness the different connections between our program participants. It is fulfilling to see how our Alumni learn and grow during our program and come back to support our work by being Mentors, Community Partners and more.
