Innovative Partnerships for Intern Support

Updated: Aug 28

Partnerships are at the heart of SHECP, particularly innovative opportunities to support students. This summer, SHECP continued existing partnerships and piloted creative ways to provide additional support – professionally, financially, and relationally – for interns.

EngageKY (Louisville, KY):

For the third summer, SHECP partnered with EngageKY to offer interns in Louisville, KY the opportunity to serve as AmeriCorps Peer Leaders. Our partners at EngageKY share that “EngageKY is a proud partner with SHECP because of a shared, service-driven purpose rooted in higher education that believes civic responsibility, leadership, and service to one’s community are pathways to impact our most complex social problems.”

Five students completed additional trainings and carried out their Peer Leader roles in their internship placements, logging 1,537 hours of on-site service summer. Upon completion of the program, participating students received an educational award, financial support to be applied toward the cost of their schooling.

Partnership for Innovation (Atlanta, GA):

SHECP also piloted a partnership with PIN, the Partnership for Innovation, an organization focused on supporting communities throughout Georgia. PIN's mission is to "catalyze innovation, opportunity and shared economic prosperity through public-private partnership." As part of the pilot program, these students received additional funding and joined PIN for professional development opportunities throughout the summer, while fully participating in all SHECP programming.

Two selected students, Erica Yun and Victoria Quintero, served as joint SHECP & PIN interns. Both Quintero and Yun were placed with Kids-Doc-On-Wheels, a mobile free clinic providing high quality and comprehensive pediatric care in the greater Atlanta area. Yun's and Quintero's work culminated in the preparation of a poster for the PIN conference before attending SHECP’s Annual Conference in August.
