Now Available: Closing Conference Keynote Session & New Article

Dear SHECP Community,

I know that for many of us the fall semester has finally arrived, so please know that our thoughts are with you and your students as you begin the academic year under unprecedented circumstances.

The Final Keynote address is ready to view on the SHECP YouTube channel. As you will recall, Dr. Scott W. Allard, author of our summer read, “Places in Need: The Changing Geography of Poverty,” provided formal remarks at our virtual Frueauff Closing Conference on Friday, July 31.

In other news, Ryan Jiha, Program Officer for W.K. Kellogg Foundation, recently published an article in Medium, “Haitian Resilience is Not a Sign of Strength, it’s a Sign of Our Betrayal,” a review of Haiti’s persistent challenges with poverty, natural disaster and tyranny. Jiha shared similar insights during Keynote Session #3 – W.K. Kellogg Foundation related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the Haitian people.

Looking back at a very successful SHECP 2020 Summer Internship Program, we would like to thank you for your participation and support throughout the summer and beyond. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach me at rolphsc@shepherdconsortium.org.

Sincerely,

Stephanie R. Rolph, PhD,  Academic Director – SHECP
