Dear SHECP Community,
As 2020 is quickly coming to a close, I pause to express my gratitude for your support of SHECP’s mission. Particularly throughout 2020, when the causes and consequences of poverty are so evident, your investment remains crucial to our work.
Because of your support we were able to quickly pivot our Summer Internship Program to a virtual format, which the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated. This shift provided SHECP Interns, Cohort Mentors, Community Partners and staff a safe environment to collaborate and participate in meaningful work.
The SHECP 2020 Summer Internship Program was a success. A few highlights include:
84 SHECP Interns from 18 colleges and universities participated in the SHECP 2020 Summer Internship Program.
SHECP Interns provided virtual support to 62 Community Partners in 26 cities throughout the U.S.
SHECP Interns gained experience in multiple sectors – Community & Individual Services, Education & Youth Outreach, Healthcare and Legal & Business.
The new virtual format provided the opportunity to host over 25 sessions led by professionals representing a variety of organizations.
Moving forward to 2021, the SHECP Community is currently engaging in an early exploration of the 2021 Summer Internship Program theme, “Practicing Equity at the Intersection of Race and Poverty,” through ongoing community-building activities, including virtual book discussion groups and keynote sessions.
Such exploration work provides participants resources for personal growth, internal community-building and professional development, which will support the structured support and mentorship that will be provided during the 2021 Internship Program.
